Texas House District 124 Deserves Another Choice
A Direct Question about Children Deserves an Answer
At a recent candidate forum, a candidate was asked whether he supports gender reassignment for children. I listened for a clear answer. Instead, I heard a familiar party response. I cannot tell you what he believes privately. I can tell you that voters deserve to know where every candidate stands publicly.
We call child trafficking evil. We call sexual abuse and physical abuse of children evil. So we must be willing to ask a hard moral question here, too: How can we justify an irreversible, elective surgery that changes a child’s body before that child is old enough to make the decision as an adult?
I cannot justify it. I believe performing gender-transition surgery on a minor is morally wrong. I call that decision evil because I believe it violates our duty to protect children. I am speaking about the procedure and the adults responsible for it—not condemning a child who is struggling or a family seeking help.
I also have serious concerns about medical interventions that may have lasting effects on a child’s body or fertility. Children need time to grow. They need parents who are fully informed, professionals who will listen carefully, and mental-health care that treats their distress with patience and compassion. A child’s pain is real and deserves attention. It should never make the child less worthy of dignity or love.
My Christian faith calls me to defend the vulnerable. My background in clinical mental health counseling has taught me the importance of listening before drawing conclusions. Proverbs 31:8–9 calls us to speak up for those who need a voice. For me, that means protecting children and caring for them.
As an adult, a person can make decisions about their own body. Childhood is the time to be protected while growing into that responsibility.
So I ask every candidate the question plainly: Do you support irreversible gender-transition surgery for minors—yes or no? Families deserve an answer.
