AUSTIN, Texas – L.D. Howard, a U.S. Air Force retiree and recent retiree from the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs, officially submitted her candidate application today to run as an Independent for the Texas State House of Representatives, District 124. Howard, accompanied by her husband Brian, traveled to Austin to file the application, formalizing her commitment to bringing servant leadership and a new, non-partisan voice to the Texas legislature.
As an Independent, Howard is running on a platform centered on unity and community-focused solutions.
"I am running as an independent because I believe in placing people over politics," said Howard. "My campaign is founded on the Christian values I was raised on – the scriptures that teach us to love our neighbors, serve the vulnerable, and act with integrity. My motto is 'Faith, Service, and People First,' and my theme is 'Showing Love in Action with Sustainability.' This isn't about a political party; it's about our community."
Howard’s career is defined by service. She dedicated over two decades to federal service in the United States Air Force and with the VA’s South Texas Veterans Healthcare System, advocating for countless service members and their families.
A multi-passionate entrepreneur, Howard is also the founder of several businesses and non-profits dedicated to providing holistic support to underserved communities, veterans, unwed mothers, youth, and seniors. She holds a Master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and a Bachelor’s in Business Administration and Marketing, blending deep empathy with a strategic understanding of community and economic needs.
