Leadership Means Showing Up for Texas HD 124
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
April 14, 2026
San Antonio, Texas — LaKeisha Howard, independent candidate for Texas House District 124, released the following statement in response to recent public discussion surrounding legislative absences and enforcement actions at the Texas Capitol:
“The people of Texas House District 124 deserve a representative who shows up, stays present, and does the work they were elected to do.
Texans will always hold different opinions, and we may not always agree with—or even like—the individuals who hold public office. But as a community, we must respect the position itself and the responsibility that comes with it. Public office is a trust given by the people, and that trust deserves consistency, accountability, and presence.
Leadership means being at the table—listening, voting, and advocating for our neighbors—especially when issues are difficult or emotions run high.
As a woman of faith, I believe Scripture calls us to act with humility, to respect authority, and to be peacemakers. I am running as an independent because our district needs unity, not division; solutions, not slogans; and service, not spectacle.
I respect the right of every elected official to express their views, but I also believe our community deserves representation that does not disappear when things get hard. My commitment is simple and unwavering: I will always be present, always accessible, and always focused on the families of House District 124.
This campaign is about restoring trust, lowering the temperature in our politics, and putting people before party. That is the leadership I offer, and that is the leadership I will bring to Austin.”
